Tuk tuks aren't one standard size, seating ranges from 1 to 6 passengers depending on the model. TukTuk Tour runs 4-passenger tuk-tuks across every one of our Madrid routes. That's the registered capacity of our fleet, and it's a deliberate choice for a more open, comfortable ride. The driver isn't one of those 4 seats, a group of five or more simply needs a second vehicle.
How many people fit in a tuk tuk? A standard Madrid tuk tuk can carry up to 4 passengers per vehicle, which is the legal maximum for the tuk tuks used by TukTuk Tour. One tuk tuk is ideal for 1–4 people, including couples, families, or small groups, and the entire vehicle is reserved for your group rather than shared with strangers.
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Seats across tuk-tuk models generally | 1 to 6 |
| Seats on a TukTuk Tour vehicle | Up to 4 |
| Does the driver count as a passenger? | No, separate from the 4 |
| Group of 5–8 people | 2 tuk-tuks |
| Group of 9–12 people | 3 tuk-tuks |
| Price structure | Per vehicle, not per person |
| Children | Count toward the 4-seat limit, confirm age at booking |
| Private vs shared booking | Same 4-seat vehicle either way |
There's no single global standard for tuk-tuk capacity. Anyone who tells you every tuk-tuk seats the same number of people is simplifying. The vehicle started out as a small passenger rickshaw, and manufacturers have stretched that basic shape in different directions ever since.
None of these is "the real tuk-tuk." They're different vehicles, built for different jobs. Capacity comes down to the specific vehicle's registration, not a worldwide rule, a manufacturer builds a chassis, fits a bench (or two), and the finished vehicle gets approved for a set number of passengers wherever it's sold.
Search "how many people fit in a tuk tuk" and you'll find different numbers on different sites. That's usually not one of them being wrong. A tourism page describing a 6-seat vehicle will correctly say 6. A private operator running 4-seat vehicles will correctly say 4. Neither is describing a universal standard, because there isn't one to describe.
The only reliable way to know a specific company's capacity is to check that company's own vehicles. That's the point of this page: TukTuk Tour, 4 passengers, every tour, no exceptions.
Our Fleet
We've run guided tuk-tuk routes through central Madrid for years. In that time, we've stuck with the same decision: four seats, not six. We could run bigger vehicles, a 6-seat tuk-tuk needs a longer body and an extra bench row, and that added structure closes in the sides of the vehicle, leaving less shoulder and knee room per rider on a full six-person load.
Four seats keeps the layout open on both sides, which matters more than it sounds:
Four is also the registered seating capacity of every vehicle in our fleet. It isn't a number we picked for marketing, it's what the vehicle is built and licensed to carry, and it happens to match the group size where the ride still feels open rather than packed.
No. Running on electric power changes the engine, not the seating. Our whole fleet is 100% electric rather than the small combustion engines older tuk-tuks use, a quieter ride and no exhaust fumes at street level, genuinely noticeable in Madrid's narrow historic streets. But it has no bearing on how many passengers the vehicle carries. Passenger capacity comes from the chassis and bench design, and that stays a 4-seat layout whether the motor underneath is electric or combustion.

Plan Your Group
| Your group size | Tuk-tuks needed |
|---|---|
| 1–4 people | 1 |
| 5–8 people | 2 |
| 9–12 people | 3 |
| 13–16 people | 4 |
| 17+ people | Contact us to coordinate multiple vehicles |
A few concrete examples:
For any group above four, message us your total headcount before booking. We line up the right number of vehicles and send them out on the same route and schedule, so nobody in your party feels split off from the rest.
Real Comfort
Both. Four is what the vehicle is licensed to carry, and it genuinely is the more comfortable number to ride with. Four adults is a snug but workable fit, an honest description, not a sales line. You're close together on an open-sided bench, part of the charm on a short tour and worth knowing before a 3- or 4-hour one.
A tuk-tuk has no boot, so plan around that separately from the passenger count. A small bag, backpack or camera bag is fine. Most tuk-tuks, ours included, aren't wheelchair accessible, and boarding height can be an issue for larger mobility aids. Contact us ahead of time if accessibility is a concern, and we'll give you a straight answer rather than a guess. None of this changes the price, it only affects what you can realistically bring along for the ride.
Group Sizes, Explained
This is the question right behind "how many people fit," so here's the direct version, group size by group size. For any multi-vehicle booking, use our group booking page or send us your total headcount directly. We coordinate departure time and route so every vehicle in your party moves together.
Each extra tuk-tuk is priced the same as the first. There's no built-in discount for booking more than one, but splitting a large party across several tuk-tuks still usually costs less per person than most private tour alternatives for the same group size.
Booking Options
No. Every TukTuk Tour vehicle seats up to 4 passengers, whether you book it privately or by the seat. The difference is how you book, not the size of the tuk-tuk.
| Feature | Private tour | Shared tour |
|---|---|---|
| You book | The whole vehicle | One seat |
| Vehicle capacity | Up to 4 | Up to 4 |
| Other passengers | None, your group only | Possibly, from other bookings |
| Duration options | 30 minutes to 4 hours | ~1 hour, fixed |
| Hotel pickup | Free, central Madrid | Not available |
| Best for | Families, groups of 3–4 | Solo travellers, couples on a budget |
Every tour is priced per tuk-tuk, not per person, one price covers 1 to 4 people riding together. See our full tuk tuk Madrid price guide for a duration-by-duration breakdown.
| Tour | Duration | Price (1–4 people) |
|---|---|---|
| Flashbacks | 30 min | €49 |
| Classics | 60 min | €89 |
| Highlights | 90 min | €119 |
| Essentials (best seller) | 2 hours | €149 |
| Royal | 3 hours | €225 |
| Full Experience | 4 hours | €299 |
Because the price doesn't move with headcount, four people always get the best value per person. See how the price breaks down by tour duration, or check what counts as a good price for a Madrid tuk tuk tour:
| Tour | Total price | Per person (2 people) | Per person (4 people) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flashbacks | €49 | €24.50 | €12.25 |
| Classics | €89 | €44.50 | €22.25 |
| Highlights | €119 | €59.50 | €29.75 |
| Essentials | €149 | €74.50 | €37.25 |
| Royal | €225 | €112.50 | €56.25 |
| Full Experience | €299 | €149.50 | €74.75 |
A group of 5 or more pays for a second tuk-tuk at the same rate. There's no per-person surcharge, just a second vehicle price.
Pick Your Route
All six tours use the same 4 passenger vehicle. The difference between them is how much of Madrid you cover, not how many people fit.
| Tour | Time | Price | Good fit for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flashbacks | 30 min | €49 | A quick group of 4 with limited time |
| Classics | 60 min | €89 | First-time visitors, small families |
| Highlights | 90 min | €119 | Groups who want the Prado area included |
| Essentials | 2 hrs | €149 | Most families of 4, our best seller |
| Royal | 3 hrs | €225 | Groups wanting Bernabéu and Salamanca too |
| Full Experience | 4 hrs | €299 | Larger parties splitting across 2+ tuk-tuks for a full day |
Each longer tour keeps every stop from the shorter ones and adds more of the city. Curious about the exact route? A 4 passenger tuk tuk isn't the right choice for every trip. Here's an honest comparison for a group of up to 4.
| Option | Group fit | Walking required | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tuk-tuk (private) | Up to 4, your group only | Almost none | Families and small groups wanting a guided, open-air route |
| Tuk-tuk (shared) | 1–4, shared with strangers | Almost none | Solo travellers and couples on a budget |
| Walking tour | Any size | High | Travellers who want street-level detail and don't mind pace |
| Hop-on hop-off bus | Any size | Moderate | Larger groups, flexible independent sightseeing |
| Taxi | Up to 4 | None | Point-to-point transport, no guiding |
If your group is exactly four and you want a guide, open-air views and no walking between stops, a private tuk-tuk is built for that specific case. Curious whether it's worth the price for your trip? Booking Confidence
We'd rather resolve capacity questions before your tour date than at the meeting point. Every booking confirmation states the number of tuk-tuks reserved and the passenger count each one covers. If your group grows or shrinks after you book, a quick message updates that number before your date, not on arrival.

No. The driver operates the vehicle separately from the 4 passenger seats.
Yes, that's the exact capacity our vehicles are built for. It's a snug fit on longer tours, but a comfortable one.

Two, split 4 and 4.
Yes. A child takes up one of the 4 seats. Tell us their age when you book so we can confirm the right setup.
Per tuk tuk. One price covers 1 to 4 people, so a full group of 4 gets the lowest cost per person.
No. Shared and private tours use the identical 4-seat vehicle. The only difference is whether you book the whole tuk-tuk or a single seat on it.
A small bag is fine. Large suitcases and non-folding strollers generally won't fit, check with us in advance if you're bringing either.
Yes, some tuk-tuk models in Madrid can carry 5 or 6 passengers, but capacity depends on the specific vehicle and its approved configuration.
Four passengers per tuk-tuk isn't a limitation we're apologizing for, it's the number that keeps the ride open, photogenic and comfortable. If there are four or fewer of you, one booking covers your whole group. If there are more, tell us your headcount and we'll line up as many tuk-tuks as you need, running together on the same route.
